Mrs. Katie Lee Horne McRae, a daughter of the late John and Carrie Dumas Horne, was born on August 24, 1924, in Montgomery County, North Carolina.  She departed this glorious earthly life on Saturday, February 14, 2014 at her residence.

Katie attended the Montgomery County Public Schools, where she graduated from Peabody High School in Troy, NC.  An advocate of hard work, soon after graduating, she began her work as a housekeeper and later becoming a textile operator for United Mills/Bates Nightwear in Troy, NC.

Katie met the love of her life, Mr. Marshall McRae, Sr., to whom she was united in holy matrimony, they were blessed with 6 children, three of whom along with her husband, preceded her in death, Lonnie, Margaret and Peggy.

At an early age, she dedicated her life to Christ and joined Roper Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, Katie strongly  believed that Christ must be honored first in everything you do.  She served as President of the Roper Grove Usher Board for many yearsmm until her health failed.

She leaves to cherish her dear memories and memorable legacy, one daughter, Iris McRae Voss of the home; 2 sons, Alphonso McRae (Evon) and Marshall McRae, Jr., (Lillian) all of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Elizabeth Orr and one brother, Edward Dumas, both of Wadeville, NC; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.

In tears we saw you sleeping, and watched you fade away.  Our hearts were almost broken, we wanted you to stay.  But when we saw you sleeping, so peaceful, free from pain.  How could we wish you back, to suffer that again.  It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone.  For a part of us went with you, the day God called you home!!   Love Your Children
