Margaret Hood Obituary

MRS. MARGARET REE GLENN HOOD, 83 of MONROE, NC passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at White Oak Manor Nursing and  Rehabilitation in Waxhaw, NC.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 12, 2022 at First Presbyterian Church, 7700 Waxhaw Highway in Waxhaw, NC.  Mrs. Hood's remains will lie in repose 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the church prior to the service.  Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe, NC.

Mrs. Hood was a retired Educator in the Union County Public School System. She was preceded in death by her husband Willie Everett Hood on October 29, 2021.  

(Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic everyone attending the Service and Public Viewing are required to wear a mask or facial covering.   Also please use the Hand Sanitizing Station when entering and exiting the Funeral Home.)

A public viewing will be held 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Friday, February 11, 2022 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of Monroe, NC which is serving the Hood, Glenn and extended families.  

Mrs. Margaret Ree Glenn Hood, entered this world in the loving earthly care of the late Curtis Eugene Glenn and Lizzie Mae Hood Glenn on the 18 of February 1938 in  Mineral Springs, NC.  She made her peaceful transition to our Heavenly Father on 08 February 2022.

Margaret earned a Bachelors Degree from Livingstone College, Salisbury, NC and continued her education at the University of NC at Charlotte, NC.  She was a passionate educator and became the first black teacher at the time of integration at Parkwood High School.  Her teaching career concluded after more than thirty years of service at East Union Middle School, Marshville, NC.

Prior to completing her degree at Livingstone, she married her husband of nearly sixty-two years, Willie Everett Hood of Lancaster, SC.  Their union produced three children; Everett Hood of Advance, NC, Sabrina Myrick of Gainesville, VA and Lizzie Hood of Durham, NC.  She and Willie served as faithful members of First Presbyterian Church in Waxhaw, NC.  She was  a member of the Choir, the Deacon Board, the Hospitality Committee and was an Elder of the Church.  Outside of her church activities and in her retirement, she served her community by working on a number of boards, focused on Social Services.  Margaret joined the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority while attending Livingstone College.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Everett Hood and her siblings; two brothers, Eugene Glenn and James Glenn and one twin sister, Margie Glenn.

She leaves to cherish fond memories to her children, Everett (Sandra), Sabrina (Wil) and Lizzie; one grandson, Jonathan Hood of Advance, NC; three brothers, John Glenn of Charlotte, NC, Carl Glenn of Rock Hill, SC and Sterlin Glenn of Savannah, GA; one sister, Truedence Glenn of Fort Washington, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.  Her impact will continue to be felt by her former students, friends and others who crossed paths with her throughout her journey of life.
