MR. SYLVESTER " TIBB" HAYWOOD, 82, of MOUNT GILEAD, NC, passed away Monday, January 9, 2017, at CHS - Anson in Wadesboro, NC.
Funeral Services will be held 12:00pm Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 4517 NC Hwy. 73 West, Mount Gilead, NC 27306. Family visitation will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. until 12noon prior to the funeral at the church.
A public viewing will be held 12:00pm to 7:00pm Friday, January 13, 2017 at Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, NC.
Sylvester Haywood was born on Wednesday, June 20, 1934, in Montgomery County, North Carolina, to the late Walter "Bud" Haywood and Lillie Tyson Haywood.
" Tibb", as he was fondly called by everyone, attended the public schools of Montgomery County and was employed with CP&L, the Montgomery County School System, Walmart in Biscoe and held various other jobs but his main job was working for the Lord.
He confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Mount Gilead. He had a love for gospel music and "dancing" for the Lord.
Tibb was united in holy matrimony to Rachel Alsobrook on April 16, 1961, and to this union, two children were born, Sylvia and Kenneth. He was preceded in death by his son Kenneth Sebastian Haywood; his parents, Walter "Bud" Haywood and Lillie Tyson Haywood; siblings, Lenzo Haywood, R.B. Haywood, Annie Mae Thomas, Hattie Lee Miller; brothers-in-law, Bobby Alsbrook, William Alsbrook, Walter Alsbrook and James Alsbrook; one sister-in-law, Sarah Alsbrook Steed; nieces and nephews.
He leaves to cherish loving memories to his beloved wife of 55 years, Rachel Haywood of the home; one daughter, Sylvia M.H, Little (Fred, aka Cartoon) of Mt. Gilead, NC; a devoted step-son, Michael S. Nicholson of Mount Gilead, NC (his caregiver); one granddaughter, Jasmine L. Coleman (Omar) and one grandson, Jarrett S. Little, all of High Point, NC; two great-grandsons, Omari and Ja'Kari Coleman of High Point, NC; one brother, Lester Haywood (Myrtle) of Mount Gilead, NC and one sister, Alice Lee Pankey of Troy, NC; two brothers-in-law, Thomas Alsobrook (Shirley) of Mount Gilead, NC and Bobby Steed of Biscoe, NC;' sisters-in-law, Mary Alsobrook, Mary Helen Alsobrook, Edna Mae Alsobrook, all of Mount Gilead, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
" To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord."
