MRS. MARY WASHINGTON DAVIS, 98 of WAXHAW, NC, passed away Friday, May 27, 2016, at Novant Health / Matthews Medical Center in Matthews, NC. Funeral Services will be held 2:00pm Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at the Mount Zion Baptist Church, 9904 Andrew Jackson Rd., Waxhaw, NC 28173. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A public viewing will be held 1:00pm to 7:00pm Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Monroe, NC.

Mary Washington Davis, a daughter of the late Charlie and Bessie Blackmon, was born on Tuesday, October 30, 1917, in Union County, NC. She entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 27, 2016, in the Novant Health/Matthews Medical Center, Matthews, NC.

Mary attended the Union County Public Schools and retired from Waxhaw Elementary School.

Mary accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she served faithfully until her health began to fail. She was a former Sunday School teacher, Deaconess, a member of the Missionary Auxillary and a member of the Hymn Choir.

Mary was united in holy matrimony to Richard Davis and to this union seven children were born. Three children Patricia Tims, Garfield Davis and Louis Davis, Jr., preceded her in death.

Left to cherish loving and fond memories are her two daughters, Elizabeth McKinney of Waxhaw, NC and Gladys Blair of Lancaster, SC; two sons, Walter (Addie) of Waxhaw, NC and Richard Lee (Lula Bell) of California, MD; one sister, Wilma Rhoney and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Davis of Lancaster, SC; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other beloved relatives and friends.
