Billy James (B.J.) Marsh

MR. BILLY JAMES "BJ"  MARSH, 74 of MONROE, NC passed away June 27, 2018 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, July 2, 2018 at the Harris Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Monroe, NC.  Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Monroe, NC

A public viewing will be held 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm  at Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of Monroe, NC whom is serving the Marsh and extended families.

"BJ" was born on December 2, 1943, in Anson County, North Carolina, to the late Max "June" and Ruth Peterson.

He was raised in Union County and attended Winchester Avenue School.  He worked as a contractor in Masonry with Bell and Bradshaw.  In later years, BJ was self employed and served many.

He loved listening to music, fishing  hosting cookouts, bringing family and friends together.   He joined Elizabeth Baptist Church in Marshville, NC at an early age.  He was predeceased by his parents.

He leaves cherished memories to two daughters, Ruthie Mae Crowder of Indian Trail, NC and Jennifer Johnson (Eric) of Monroe, NC; four sons. James Earl Black of Bennettsville, SC, James Alonzo Black (Lavetta), KalvinJerome Black (Laura), all of Monroe, NC and Tony Marsh(Tacha) of Wingate, NC; five sisters; Rosa Thomas and Gloria Ann Broady both of  Rockingham, NC, Patricia Thomas, Daisy Haywood (Johnny), all of Angier, NC, Gloria Patterson (Darrell), of Fayetteville, NC; seven brothers  Grady Thomas of Rockingham, NC, Keith Thomas, Michael Thomas  and William Thomas, all of Angier  NC, Jesse Thomas (Mildred) of Lillington  NC, Gregory Thomas (Mona) of Raleigh  NC, and Joseph Broady (Doris) of Hamlet  NC ; two special aunts  Marilyn Ewing of Monroe  NC and Bessie Clyburn of Wingate, NC; three uncles  Steve Marsh(Carolyn) of Marshville, NC, Mert Thomas of Monroe  NC and Haskell Marsh of Polkton, NC, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren  nieces  nephews, relatives and friends.  Best friends for many years, Will Perry and Friends of the Black Men's Club.
