Bertha Mae (Leake) Leake

MRS. BERTHA LEAKE, 100 of MT. GILEAD, NC passed away Thursday, March 21, 2019 at the Forest Oaks Nursing Home in Albemarle, NC.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 pm Sunday, March 24, 2019 at the St. Stephens AME Church, 1742 McKay Hill Rd., MT. Gilead, NC 27306.

Mrs. Leake remains will  lay in repose one hour prior to the service at the Church.  Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

A public viewing will be held 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of MT. Gilead, NC.

Bertha Mae was born on Friday, June 14, 1918, to the late Cleveland Leake and Annie F. Legrande.  She made her transition from earth to heaven on Thursday, March 21, 2019, in the Forest Oaks Nursing Facility, Albemarle, NC.

"Miss Lade", as she was fondly called, attended the public schools of Montgomery County.  She confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and served faithfully as an Usher, Sunday School Teacher and a Missionary.

She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Henry Leake and to this union one son was born, James Adam Leake.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; sisters, Hattie Legrande, Sue Stanback, Josephine Davidson and Lizzie Steele; brothers, Preston Leake, Virble Leake, George Leake, Cleveland Leake, William Leake and Henry Patrick Leake.

Miss Lade leaves cherished memories to her devoted son, James Adam Leake (JoAnn), of Mt. Gilead, NC; grandson, James Todd Leake (Kimberly) of Lithonia, GA; step-sister, Emma Miller of Mt. Gilead, NC; grandchildren, Ariana and Masiah Leake of Lithonia, GA; special niece, Claudette Alston of Mt. Gilead, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends,
