2 Timothy 4:7 "You hav fought a good fight, you have finished the race, you have kept the faith."  It is with heartbroken grief and lasting sadness that we announce the transitioning of one of God's heavenly angel, David Louis "Tate" Covington.  Our hearts feel empty without our husband, dad, brother and friend, but at least we find comfort knowing that he is free from pain caused by Sickle Cell.  David or "Tate", as he was affectionately known by many friends and classmates, was born on Monday, July 21, 1952, in Monroe, NC. in Monroe, NC.  He was the beloved son of the late James (JD) and Thelma Byrams Covington, both of Union County.

David was a graduate of Monroe High School Class of 1970.  He attended Anson Community College in Polkton, NC, where he receoved a certificate in Drafting Blue Prints.  He became a North Carolina Licensed General Contractor  in the 90's building houses and remodeling homes.  He retired as a North Carolina Licensed Insurance Broker in 2012.  He had a special place in his heart for all children which he expressed his love as an After School Teacher with Union County Public Schools.

David loved his community and dedicated his life to serving it.  David was a member of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Committee and City of Monroe Board of Adjustments.

David joined Elizabeth Baptist Church at an early age and later joined Langford Chapel C.M.E. Church.  As a devoted christian, he joined several organizations in the church, such as the Steward Board, Young Adult Choir, Sunday School Superintendent and Trustee Board, which he served faithfully until his death.

David was respected as the heart of his household and anything he as a part of; but to all that knew him was a loving father and brother.  he dedicated hos entire life to his wife of 41 1/2 years and his two children.  David will be deeply missed.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories; his wife; Mrs. Edith Johnson Covington of the home; son, Delvyn Louis Covington of Monroe, NC and one daughter, Adrianne Natae Covington of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Vander Lee Parnell Covington (Birong Lu) of Washington, DC, Donald Covington (Shawn), Jerry Covington, all of Monroe, Nc, James David Brown (Shirley) of Wingare, NC, Donald James Brown of Washington, DC and Mickey Brown of Charlotte, NC; sister, April Brown of Charlotte, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.  David was preceded in death by one brother, Gerry Covington whom was a twin.

Dearest Edith and the two beloved descendants of the union of David and Edith Covington, please receive my heartfelt condolence as my expression of love and loss because I join you in our grief. David was and is still a part of my life's cherished memories. I can almost see David's smiles so fixed on his face as a proud daddy on the day's that he would come into East Monroe Elementary School to trust us with his prized possessions-- his two children. David was a loyal and support parent and an often called on Mister FIX-IT around the school and and my rallying call dad for every PTA activity. I will hold you in my prayers and thank God again for lending us David Covington in our times of need and joy.
