Mr. Matthew Christian, 69 of Newark, New Jersey, formerly of Montgomery County, North Carolina (Wadeville Community) died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at East Orange General Hospital in East Orange, NJ.  Funeral Servcies will be held 12:30pm Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Roper Grove AME Zion Church, 196 Roper Grove Church Rd., Mount Gilead, NC with burial to follow in the Bruton Cemetery. the Family will recieve friends  12 noon to 12:30 pm prior to the service.  Public viewing will be held Monday, July 30, 2012, 11am to 7pm at Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, NC  

     Mr. Matthew Christian, was born September 10, 1942, in Montgomery County, North Carolina.  He was a son of the late Henry and Viola Christian.  He departed this earthly life on Monday, July 23, 2012 in the East Orange General Hospital, East Orange, New Jersey.

      He attended the Peabody School in Troy, North Carolina.  Matthew was employed at American Aluminum in Mountain Side, New Jersey.  After leaving American Aluminum,  he took up employment at Avport Airstrip in Teterboro, New Jersey.

     He leaves to cherish loving memories to his wife, Emma Jean Christian of Eufaula, Alabama; two sons, Kenneth Christian of Newark, New Jersey and Craig Mathew Christian of Birmingham, Alabama; four grandson, Kenneth, Keith and Kendale Christian, all of Newatk, New Jersey and Craig Christian of Georgetown, Georgia; four sisters, Peggy Christian of East Orange, New Jersey, Hazel Deberry of Orange, New Jersey, Grace Robinson of Mt. Gilead, North Carolina and Margaret Christian of Newark, New Jersey; four brothers, Henry Christian, Jr., and James Christian, both of Newark, New Jersey Mack Christian and Alfonso Christian, both of Irvington, New Jersey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  

      Eulogist was Reverend Martha Greene, Pastor of Wadeville A.M.E. Zion Church
